Do we actually have any idea where GameCat's SR-71 post got linked this time? Because it's up 20,000 pageviews since yesterday, and far more since the start of the week. Unless I'm crazy, it was <210k at the start of the week, which makes for an almost 50% increase in the total. Ever. Shit cray.

I didn't think it could possibly be just Oppo/Jalopnik traffic, but who knows? When I bothered to go read it earlier in the week (when it climbed the sidebar) it was at 207,000 or something like, but I didn't write it down - I only made note yesterday it was ~276k because I was noticing something up. Maybe your bounce got somebody to do a significant relink elsewhere.

that is correct. Gamecat did an analysis and he found it's from Facebook somewhere that the hits are spiking from.

We were discussing it in our private moderators-only group somewhere on the interwebs. I'll ask him to share it

With variations for traffic, it has looked like this for the past two days with nearly 80% coming purely from Facebook/Social media.

I can't share the link I got this from, but this what the chartbeat live tracking looks like. It's also managed to climb to the most popular story on Jalopnik several times in the last couple of days, which means that a lot of traffic was generated from clicks from it being featured in the front page sidebar.
